Gwalior Catholic Seva Samaj Gwalior
The Diocese of Gwalior came into
existence in the year 1999 bifurcated from the Diocese of Jhansi with Rt.
Rev.Dr.Joseph Kaithathara as its first Bishop. It covers six civil districts of
MP namely Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, morena, Shivpuri, and Sheopur. Being a new
diocese it has registered a voluntary social work society, named Gwalior
Catholic Seva Samaj(GCSS) under the society act in the month of January
2005. Before registeration the social work has been implemented directly
by the diocese. Since last 10 years the diocese was involved
in community development through the formation of self help groups and
empowering them economically and socially in 100 villages of the districts of
Gwalior, Datia and Shivpuri under the leadership of Fr. A. David. The
organization is currently working effectively in 06 blocks of these three
districts. From the beginning onwards GCSS focused on the development of
the marginalized and weaker sections of the society and done tremendous efforts
on economic, social and cultural upliftment of the community.
The major concerns of the area like
livelihood, illiteracy, weak health infrastructure, women issues and
agriculture related problems. GCSS has implemented many programmes for,
non-formal education, savings and credit, and health promotion, sustainable
agriculture etc with the support of many national and international donor
agencies.

Mission: To uplift oppressed and weaker
section through the process of empowerment and integrated them in the civil
society
Objectives
1. Empower rural folk to have a better self-image and to form
self-reliant people's
organizations.
2. Create economic, social and cultural equity among the rural
community
3. Strengthen self governance.
4. Create health consciousness among the people.
5. Support education and development of children who are
underprivileged.
6. Promote organic farming and natural resource management.
7. To animate, establish, consolidate, carry out, maintain and
support, development and
welfare activities.
8. To promote, provide, establish formal and non formal education.
9. To join, arrange, organize lecture programmes, workshops,
camps, courses, conferences,
seminars and exposure for promoting environment,
women and child development and
health care services.
10. To collaborate with government for eradication of dreaded diseases
like TB, CANCER,
HIV/AIDS etc
11. To take up the government developmental projects including
soil and water
conservation and render assistance during any calamities.
